Circumspection.

A client awaiting a divorce chose to reconcile with their spouse.

This was not the outcome, I, in my judgment, knew was needed. The client had been abused, verbally and economically. The client was on the precipice of a ‘better life’, surely a more separate one, from the conflictual one lived for years.

I could not convince them to stay the course, to remain on the path they chose. I could not convince them that better days were just beyond the riverbend that was awaiting a day to tell their story.

I wondered if the story were so horrific to them that acknowledgement of it in a public forum was more than - more than they could absorb and more than they could accept - so instead they chose to continue the live the negative.

I had to let them go their own way.
